Nicole's Question on Hume

Assuming that all other literature remained the same and progressed as it did, then I think people would react negatively to Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, that is in the major populace.  The main people that read these works nowadays are high school students reading them in their English class, and only because it is required work.  In that situation, these kids need guidance and help in understanding what the story is about (mainly with the grammar and Greek words).  Other than this group of people, it is really just English majors in college and anyone that exists in the literary world, which compared to the entire world's populace isn't much.

The Iliad and Odyssey are both epic poems/myths that are a part of Greek history, so while the literary world would accept it as an interesting take on Greek history and mythology, the rest of it would be hesitant about it.  The way most modern literature is now, especially fantasy literature, which is what these works would most likely fall under, are not up to the same standards as the Iliad and Odyssey.  Personally, I believe that most of the literary world would take these works as great pieces of literature, but the rest of the world would turn a cold shoulder to it, not fully understanding it as a masterpiece.
